Thelma B. Kintanar is Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature at the University of the Philippines. She is also vice president for Academic Affairs of Kalayaan College, and consultant for special projects at the UP Center for Women's Studies. She is the principal author and editor of the University of the Philippines Cultural Dictíonary for Filipinos (1996). She has also published essays and given public lectures both locally and abroad on traditional Thai art (which she studied when she lived in Bangkok for five years) and on Philippine women artists. Dr. Kintanar received an award from the National Research Council of the Philippines for Achievement in the Humanities in 1999 and also from the UP Alumni Association in June 2003 as Outstanding Professor in the Field of Arts and Letters (Literature).
