The Philippine Women Writers Association was founded by Pura Villanueva Kalaw, one of the most prominent Filipino feminists. It was an organization devoted to showcasing the literary and writing skills of Filipinas.

Among its prominent members in the 1950s were Estrella Alfon, Cita Trinidad, Daisy Hontiveros, Mary Kalaw Katigbak, Lina Flor, Esther A. Vibal and Lilia Rianzares.
