The Philippine Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PSBMB), formerly known as the Philippine Biochemistry Society (PBS) was established in 1973 by a group of biochemistry educators which aims to foster the development of biochemistry in the country.

Mission

The organization is committed to fulfill the following missions:

  • To upgrade knowledge in biochemistry by encouraging research and education and by establishing communication and exchange of professional knowledge among members as well as with other biochemists.
  • To establish means by which biochemistry could be utilized for the improvement of the socio-economic and health conditions of the country.

Membership

The membership of the organization is open to all persons holding at least a bachelor's degree in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, pharmacy, medicine, and other related disciplines as well as educators who are actively teaching and researching about biochemistry and related fields.

Affiliation

PSBMB is an affiliate of the Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB; formerly FAOB), since 1973, one of the four regional organization of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB). The organization also represents the Philippines in the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB; formerly IUB).

Projects

The organization sponsors annual conventions, seminars, workshops on concepts and principles, advances, laboratory techniques, teaching techniques, and aids, applications of biochemistry, and molecular biology in different parts of the country. They also recognize outstanding researches and educators in biochemistry, as well as those who have served the society and the BMB community.
