Parokya Ni Edgar is a Filipino band famous for their unique alternative rock music, novelty songs and satirical covers of popular songs. Their band was formed in 1993 as a group of college students. Their name “Parokya Ni Edgar” was qouted to be used by Jeric Estaco when they are still on high school as his answer to their teacher’s question, “where the father of Jose Rizal's fictional hero, Crisostomo Ibarra (in the novel Noli Me Tangere), was educated.” They explored several musical genres and varied styles evident from their one song to another.

The band, which was originally name “Comic Relief” were composed of vocalists Chito Miranda, Jeric Estaco, and Vinci Montaner, and guitarists Mikko Yap, and Gab Chee Kee. They were regulars in after-school jam sessions which honed their musical skills. Their break came when they were given the chance to perform as an opening number for an Eraserheads concert. Their big break prompted them to add a drummer and a bassist, Dindin Moreno and Buhawi Meneses, respectively.

They soon changed the band's name to “Parokya ni Edgar”. It was said that during one of their high school classes, Estaco was asked where the father of Jose Rizal's fictional hero in the novel Noli Me Tangere Crisostomo Ibarra was educated. Estaco answered, “sa Parokya ni Edgar.” After high school when Yap and Estaco withdrew from the band to pursue other interests, Darius Semaña was invited to take the role of lead guitar.

In 1990, Parokya Ni Edgar became regular perfomers in Club Dredd, a popular club in Manila at that time. As local rock community was influenced by the foreign bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, the band slowly gained popularity.

The managing editor of Universal Records, Bella Dy Tan, discovered the talent of Parokya ni Edgar through their performances in Clubb Dredd. This impressed her and gave them a contract as artist. Their initial recordings “Buloy”, “Trip”, and “Lutong Bahay” were heard on radio stations. In 1996, their their first album, Khangkhungkherrnitz, sold 120, 000 copies andbecame a triple platinum hit. In 1997, they launched their second album, Buruguduystunstugudunstuy which received another triple platinum award. Their succeeding albums were also successful:Jingle Balls Silent Night Holy Cow, released in 1998 received gold, and Gulong Itlog Gulong, released in 1999, received a triple platinum award.

In 1999, the world were also recognized wers’ Choice Award from MTV in New York City. This inspired them to tour the U.S. internationally.

In 2002, PNE released their junior studio album “Edgar Edgar Musikahan” containing the song “Halaga” that boosted their popularity.

In 2003, the song “Mr. Suave,” from their studio album Bigotilyo became another popular song that hit OPM music charts, commercial and movie sound tracks, and even election campaigns.

In 2004, PNE celebrated their 11th anniversary and released their first compilation album of the prerecorded live studio performance of their hit songs In 2010, their 8th studio album, “Middle-Aged Juvenile Novelty Pop Rockers” with the single "Paki-usap Lang (Lasingin Nyo Ako)", gained moderate charts and sales success.

In 2011, PNE took the place of 6cyclemind and joined the roster of Tanduay's First Five and RockFest.

In 2012, PNE introduced their 2nd compilation DVD album entitled “Inuman Session Vol. 2”. In that same year, Montaner, officially left the band.

In 2013, PNE celebrated its 20th anniversary in the OPM industry and launched their 13th album Bente as commemoration. Vinci Montaner temporarily reunited with the band for the album's cover art and during the album signings. In that same year, Parokya joined People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)'s “Free Mali” campaign. Chito believed that Mali, an intelligent and complex elephant should not be held captive inside a zoo. He was joined by several scientists, politicians, religious leaders, and tens of thousands of other people who believed that Mali should be freed. Even if the elephant exhibit at the Manila Zoo were to be doubled or tripled in size, it would still not be adequate to house one elephant. While zoos around the world have spent more than 2 billion pesos to attempt a more appropriately sized elephant exhibits, more and more zoos have recognized that the needs of these animals cannot be met in captivity.

In 2014, PNE received the MYX Magna Award 2014 at the MYX music awards commemorating their 20th anniversary and their excellence in alternative rock music in the OPM industry. Eraserheads was the first to receive this award in 2009.

The band is formed by five members namely, Alfonso “Chito” Miranda Jr. as lead vocals, Buhawi "Buwi" Meneses playing bass guitar, Darius Gerard "Dar" Semaña playing lead guitar, Gabriel Ignatius "Gab" Chee Kee playing rhythm guitar/vocals, and Ferdinand "Dindin" Moreno for drums.
