Ma. Luisa Camagay

Dr. Maria Luisa Camagay is a well-known historian born on May 27, 1950. She is presently the Director of the University of the Philippines Press.

Education

Camagay graduated from the University of the Philippines with an undergraduate degree in Education, major in History. She received his Master of Arts in Teaching (Social Studies) at the same university in the year 1972. She obtained her doctorate de troisieme cycle at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes on Science Sociales in Paris, France. Her specialization centers on exploring various issues in Philippine social history such as Philippine women's social history.

Career

Through her writings and publications, Dr. Camagay specializes in Philippine Women's History. She is presently a faculty member of the Department of History, College of Social Science and Philosophy University of the Philippines, Diliman and also also the current director of the University of the Philippines Press. She previously served as chairperson of the Department of History, UP Diliman.

Grants, Scholarships and Awards

Some of her publications have received honors and awards. Her book entitled Kasaysayan Panlipunan ng Maynila (1765-1898) received the 1993 National Book Awardee in the category of history given by the Manila Critics Circle. She again received the same award in 1995 with her book entitled Working Women of Manila

Internationally, Dr. Camagay received the prestigious Chevalier de Palmes Academiques given by the French Government in September 2005.
