Jose "Pempe" Padilla, Jr. was a famous Filipino actor who has starred in over a hundred films.

Padilla was born in 1911, the son of Plaridel, Bulacan governor José Padilla Sr. and brother of Carlos Padilla, Sr., the first lady director Ateng Osorio, Amado Cortez and Roy Padilla, Sr.. He belongs to the big showbiz clan of the Padillas. His very first movie was a silent picture: 1931's horror flick Ang Multo sa Libingan a.k.a. Ghost in the Cemetery. His second movie in 1933 was the successful Doctor Kuba, where he played second to the leading actor Don Dannon.

Padilla starred in many movies before the Japanese occupied Manila in 1942. He was also considered the first star, one year ahead of his rival and fellow Philippine cinema icon Rogelio dela Rosa. He continued making movies until the mid 80's.

Padilla was paired up with several Philippine screen sirens over the years. He teamed up with Carmen Rosales in the 1939 movie Arimunding-Munding, with his real-life spouse Arsenia Francisco in Ako'y Maghihintay (1938) , with Rosa del Rosario in Bakya Mo Neneng (1947), with Lilia Dizon in Kaaway ng Babae (1948), and many more.

Padilla was the uncle of movie star Rudy Fernandez, actors Robin Padilla, Rustom Padilla, Rommel Padilla and grand-uncle of diva Zsa Zsa Padilla.
