Among them were Karim ul-Makhdum, Abu Bakr, Rajah Baguinda, and Sharif Muhammad Kabungsuan. With religion came the introduction of the Islamic political institution called Sultanate. Abu Bakr, the first Sultan of Sulu, is credited for establishing the first Sultanate.
