Category:Colonial Administrators of the Philippines
The Philippines was the first Asian country to be colonized by the Europeans in the first stage of Western expansionism in the 16th century - the period of Mercantilism. In a span of almost 350 years, three powers took control and occupied the islands - the Spanish, the Americans and the Japanese. These colonizers ruled the country based on their self-interest, ideals and principles as well as political system. Because of the long colonial period, the colonial administrators that ruled the Philippines are still worth mentioning - especially their role in the formation of the Philippines as a nation-state.
