Carl Espino Balita (born 10 April 1970 in Quezon City) is a Filipino nurse, midwife, educator, entrepreneur, radio personality, and corporate trainer. He is Chairman of the CEB Group of Companies, CEO of Carl Balita Review Center, and Chairman of Mahalta Resorts.

He filed his certificate of candidacy for senator on 7 October 2021 as part of presidential aspirant Isko Moreno’s senatorial slate, under political party Aksyon Demokratiko. He aims to make laws geared towards addressing the learning, economic, and health crises brought by the pandemic.


Education

He is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Santo Tomas (UST), where he was an academic Dean’s Lister. He finished his Master's Degree in Nursing at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), with distinction for his excellent thesis on the "Caring Concepts of Filipino Nurses" which was presented in the International Nursing Conference in Brunei Darussalam. In 2007, the Lorma Colleges (La Union, Ilocos Norte) conferred him a Doctor of Humanities Philosophy (Honoris Causa) degree. He also holds a Graduate Degree in Education from PLM and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from De La Salle University-College of St. Benilde. He is also a graduate of International Management Program from Stanford University.


Career

He was a faculty of the Graduate School and College of Nursing at PLM where he also held various academic positions. He was clinical preceptor at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), National Center for Mental Health (NCMH), San Lazaro Hospital, and National Orthopedic Center. He served as Dean of Dominican College from 2004 to 2008.

He was a two-time President and a Chairman of the Quezon City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCCI) at the age of 34. During his leadership, the QCCCI became a hall of fame awardee as an outstanding chamber in the country and the best local chamber of the Asia Pacific.

He is the publisher and author of The Ultimate Learning Guide to Nursing Review and Ultimate Testing Guide to Nursing Review, and co-author of Theoretical Foundations of Nursing: The Philippine Perspective along with the former Board of Nursing Chair Dr. Eufemia Octaviano. He also launched the Online Review for Nursing, through www.carlbalita.com.

Balita is the lead convenor of Entrepinoy Movement, an advocacy group that aims to help Filipinos through entrepreneurship. He is also behind several brands of successful enterprises such as:

  • Carl E. Balita Review Center (major review center with 120 local and overseas branches)
  • Ultimate Creatives (IT company)
  • LYF Center Inc (medical wellness and beauty spa)
  • Little Lamb’s Pediatric Wellness Place (medical spa for children)
  • Fior Cafe (franchise of gourmet cafe)
  • Cebal Center for Manpower Development and Research
  • DREAM Inc. (microfinance and training company)

Balita also conducts trainings for top corporate clients in banking, real estate, pharmaceuticals, and other industries in and out of the country.

He is the producer of the film Nars, a movie about nurses which aimed to honor Filipino nurses. The film starred Jennylyn Mercado, Jodi Sta. Maria, Agot Isidro, Coco Martin, and Jon Avila among others. He is also the producer of the album IDREAM, a compilation of motivational songs featuring world-class Filipino talents like Isay Alvarez, Robert Sena, Jenine Desiderio, Jamie Rivera, Bituin Escalante, Karylle, Luke Mejarez, Raymond Lauchenco, Arthur Manuntag, and Dr. Tony Rebosa.

He is also the voice behind ABSCBN-DZMM Teleradyo Program Radyo Negosyo. The said program, which airs every Saturday at 7:00 PM, is a four-time Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) Awardee as Best Business News Feature and by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters ng Pilipinas (KBP) as Best Public Service Program.
