Villar Records was established during the 1950s by the late Manuel P. Villar, Sr., known as the Father of Philippine recording for his pioneering work in recording Original Pilipino Music (OPM). He was also the first president of the Philippine Recording Industry Association (PRIA).
The company has recorded numerous Philippine folk songs, kundimans, balitaw and other love songs from different regions of the Philippines. It has carried the ethnic sounds of the Ilocos, Cebu, Iloilo, Cordillera, Tausug, and Maranao tribes. Villar Records was the first to put on record the Philippine National Anthem.
At present, Villar Records International distributes its collection of recordings throughout the world from their distribution centers in Manila and in Los Angeles, California.
