Valentin Araneta

Valentin Araneta is the concurrent President and Chief Executive Officer of the Philippine Deposit and Insurance Corporation, the state deposit insurer. He also serves as a Director for the universal bank Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company. Araneta is a graduate of Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU).


Valentin Araneta earned his A.B. Economics in 1971, and took M.A. Economics Program at the Ateneo de Manila University after graduation. He also studied Advanced Management Program at Wharton Business School in Pennsylvania.

Professional profile

Araneta became the vice president and general manager of the Lucio Tan-owned Philippine National Bank’s International Department and Finance Management Office in 1982. He then became the senior executive vice president and chief operating officer of PNB in 1998.

He served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation from July 2000 to June 2003 and its Executive Vice President and Treasurer from July 1999 to July 2000. He served as the Chairman of Islands Merchants Corporation (a Nestle distribution company for Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental), and a Director of Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co. since April 2004, which he is the Chairman of Overseas Banking Committee and Member of Corporate Governance Committee. Araneta is also a Member and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City.

In May 2011, President Benigno Aquino III appointed Araneta as the new PDIC President and CEO. Araneta replaced Abigail Valte.
