University of Santo Tomas Hospital

The University of Santo Tomas Hospital, our premier medical facility, is a non-stock, non-profit hospital. Its primary mission is to provide the best quality healthcare possible, especially to our less fortunate brothers and sisters.
The UST Hospital trains young men and women in the medical arts and science, through clinical exposure and research, and ultimately molds them towards the professional care of patients, with compassion and love.
Your Hospital currently maintains 460 dedicated beds for charity or clinical patients. These are financially sustained by just 352 private patient beds, of which the resulting revenues support and delimit the extent of charity to the sick and poor in the clinical or charity beds.
To sustain the ever-expanding needs of our sick and poor patients, the UST Hospital must maintain and in fact expand its paying or private division.
After years of declining performance and a seeming inability to cope with the new challenges and advancements in global healthcare, the new administration decided that sweeping changes had to be made, fast, to save our beloved USTH from extinction.
After three years, the results speak for themselves. A new vision, financial turnaround, a solid manpower complement, a 675-strong certified specialist medical staff, international recognition (ISO 9001: 2000), technology and infrastructure upgrading, attractive training programs and greatly improved morale: The UST Hospital is a great institution reborn, standing head and shoulders once more amongst both its local and Asian peers and poised for even more greatness as it faces the challenges of the 21st century.
Its long-standing mission of caring for the financially disadvantaged has taken center stage; they are the beneficiaries of the hospital's financial returns and in fact, with the new UST Hospital there will be only ONE standard of care, whether paying or charity. With a stronger financial position, the Hospital can give more subsidies to charity patients, education and training to deserving doctors and students and to clinical research for the advancement of medical and allied health sciences.
