Ruffa made over 50 films in the Philippines, and has also been involved in various scandals such as the 1994 Manila Film Festival Scam when she received an award not meant for her.

In 2003, she married Turkish businessman Ylmaz Bektaş in a lavish ceremony in Manila. She now permanently resides in Turkey with her husband and their two daughters, though she frequently goes home to the Philippines to do commercials and TV guest spots, and to vacation.

Her husband bought a cable TV channel for her to work on. She is also scheduled to make a new Filipino movie with her best friends in Philippine showbusiness.

Ruffa and her parents are currently under investigation for tax evasion in the Philippines.

It was announced that she would host the Philippine version of the reality series Philippines' Next Top Model, the local version of America's Next Top Model. From March 11, 2007 until April 8, 2007, she was the temporary replacement for Kris Aquino on The Buzz.
