Roy Padilla, Sr.
Roy Padilla, Sr. was an actor, producer, director, union leader and politician. He belonged to the Padilla showbiz clan, being the father of actors Robin Padilla, Rustom Padilla and Rommel Padilla, as well as the sibling of actors Pempe Padilla, Amado Cortez, and Carlos Padilla, Sr. and the uncle of action star Rudy Fernandez and international boxing referee Carlos Padilla, Jr. Roy Padilla's father was Bulacan governor Jose Padilla, Sr.
Roy Padilla, Sr. started his political career in Paracale, Camarines Norte as a union leader, when he organized miners into NAMAWU -- National Miners Workers Union. After Paracale, he also organized unions in Benguet (Philex Mining) and PANTRANCO.
He became mayor of Jose Panganiban in Camarines Norte. He later became vice-governor of the same province in the '70s, running as opposition to the ruling Marcos party. He became active in UNIDO during the early 1980s, eventually became an assemblyman for UNIDO in 1984.
During Corazon Aquino's presidency he was appointed officer-in-charge as governor of Camarines Norte. He ran for governorship in the 1988 elections and was duly elected but did not assume office; he was assassinated on January 18, 1988 on the eve of the election.
