Collegiate career

Ronald Tubid as Blessed Pedro Calungsod.

He was the only provincial player in the supposedly all City college where he ended up being the team captain in his freshman year.

Former playmates while growing up who ended up playing in the PBA are Rommel Canaleta, James Yap, and Paul Artadi.

PBA career

Ronald "Ron" Tubid is 2002 MVP (finals) of PBL. He is 21 years old, 6"1", A slam-dunking energetic UE warrior. Tubid last played for Welcoat Paintmasters in the Philippine Basketball League. He is the youngest among this year's draftees.

Tubid is known to be hardworking and intense, an interesting prospect which scouts are raving about. He plays in a warrior-like determination and usually does high-flying acts -- virtues that endeared him to the fans. He has shown mad game in the previous PBL conference despite competing for minutes at Welcoat.

The player with boundless energy landed to a team that plays with so much vigor mainly because of the support of the crowd. There’s no doubt that Tubid’s style of play suits perfectly to the never-say-die squad but the question is how will he respond to the challenge and to the new system of coach Jong Uichico.

Tubid was Shell’s 16th overall pick in the 2003 draft and had a remarkable rookie year, averaging 8.9 points per game. He improved his mark to 12.3 ppg the following year where he was named the Mr. Quality Minutes of the PBA Press Corps. He won it again this time with Air21 in 2005-06 season where he averaged 8.9 points in 44 games with just 11 starts. The role won’t be different for him with Ginebra as he’ll come off the bench. Tubid does not mind as the long as his team wins.
