Republic Act No. 6657

Republic Act No. 6657 is also known as the "Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law of 1988". It was signed into law by President Corazon Aquino on June 10, 1988.

This Republic Act provides for the creation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). It provides for a system of acquisition of lands and compensation therefor, identifies the qualified beneficiaries, sets retention limits for landowners and also defines the parameters for the redistribution of lands to qualified beneficiaries.

The CARL provides for special areas on concern in its Chapter X. Among these special areas, to be given due consideration in the distribution and ownership of land and representation in decision-making bodies, are subsistence fishermen, veterans and retirees, agriculture graduates, and rural women.
