Reinabelle Reyes is a Filipino astrophysicist who is best known for receiving the “Chambliss Astronomy Achievement Student Award” for her major role in the discovery of the largest number of “obscured quasars,” which are “super massive” black holes in the centers of galaxies cloaked in gas and dust. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Astrophysics at Princeton University in New Jersey, USA.

Reinabelle was a Merit Science Scholar of the Department of Science and Technology when she graduated valedictorian from Philippine Science High School. She then received an academic scholarship from the Ateneo de Manila University. In 2005 she graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Physics.

In 2006 she entered a masters-level program in High Energy Physics at the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy. It was during that time that she regained her interest in cosmology and astrophysics, and applied to graduate schools in the US. She chose Princeton, and is now a Ph.D. candidate in Astrophysics at the prestigious university.

For her research on “obscured quasars,” Reinabelle was awarded the Chambliss Astronomy Achievement Student Award by the American Astronomical Society during their 211th meeting last 2007.
