Paputok(Firecrackers). Photography by Dennis Villegas

Paputok is a Filipino term for firecrackers. In the Philippines, the term is invariably used for small and large firecrackers, as well as fireworks (kwitis). The tradition of using paputok during feasts, and especially New Year's Eve, is said to have been originated by the Chinese to drive away evil spirits. The Filipinos have adapted this tradition into their own culture.
