Manuel Gonzalez de Aguilar was the governor general of the Philippines from March 4,1810 to September 4,1813. A Knight of the Order Santiago and a military officer, he arrived at Manila on March 4,1810. The royal decrees of January 29, and February 14,1810 permitted deputies from the colonies to be chosen for the Spanish Cortes. In his term the first newspaper was printed in the Philippines (August 8,1811), and Spanish constitution was publicly received in Manila on April 17,1813. His term marked by various commercial movements.
