Ask Mindy

edit

"Hi, Mindy! It's February, and I need ideas on how to celebrate Valentine's Day with my girlfriend without spending too much. We're just students, so we're on a budget, but we still want to make this occasion as special as possible. I hope you can help us, Mindy. Thanks! - Mark"

Hello, Mark! There's always something special that you and your girlfriend can do to celebrate this occasion without shelling out a lot of money. For instance, try spending Valentine's Day at either of your homes. Help each other prepare simple dishes. If both of you don't know how to cook, this is probably the best time to learn together. Then, plop up on a couch and do a DVD marathon of your favorite movies while feasting on the food you both worked hard for to prepare. If you want to spend the day outdoors, grab a picnic basket and fill it out with snacks like bread, canned coffee or juice and some chips. Then head off to any of the public parks in the metro and enjoy an afternoon of picnic there. For something out of the ordinary, head off to a museum that interests both of you. There are a number of museums in the metro that hold regular exhibits for an affordable entrance fee. It would be fun to discover and brush up on some art, history or even science, as if you're just in a field trip. Have a wonderful Valentine's Day!
