The Kilusan para sa Pambansang Demokrasya (KPD) is an alliance of progressive groups and invidividuals in the Philippines that adhere to national democracy as a political line. It believes that it is imperative to arouse, organize and mobilize the masses of the people against imperialism in order to effect genuine change in the backward, agrarian, pre-industrial economy through nationalist industrialization.

It was formed after the split within the Bagong Alayansang Makabayan (BAYAN) in Central Luzon in 1998.

The 90's was said to be the decade of setbacks for the people's movement as the largest mass formation BAYAN (Bagong Alyansang Makabayan) was fragmented into different groups such as Sanlakas, Alab-Katipunan and Siglaya in 1993. The split was due to irreconcilable differences in analysis, strategy and tactics. It was also an open secret that the split was also a reflection of the division of the underground movement.

The paranoia of having deviationists within their ranks made BAYAN to have another purge in 1997, this time mostly affecting the Central Luzon formation. This resulted in the formation of a purely Central Luzon-based organization, Alyansa ng mga Anak ng Bayan (ALAB) - Gitnang Luzon in Angeles City in Pampanga. ALAB-GL later linked with the League of Urban Poor for Action (LUPA) mostly based in NCR.

Joining forces together, ALAB and LUPA would later link up with Zambal, a youth organization in UP Manila and NNARA Youth, a peasant advocacy group. Their consolidation would later lead to the formal launching of KPD in June 10, 1998 with Sonia Soto as Chairperson. In December 10-12, 2001 the first KPD National Congress was held in Mariveles, Bataan.

From its founding, it has attained several political successes and is now firmly established in its chapters and formations nationwide. It also gained respect from other political groups and has stability despite BAYAN's attempts to marginalize and declare KPD as a fake progressive organization.
