Jose S. Buenconsejo

José S. Buenconsejo is an associate professor at the Music Research Department of the College of Music, University of the Philippines, Diliman. Dr. Buenconsejo studied musicology at the University of the Philippines, the University of Hawaii, and at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his doctorate in 1999. Recipient of grants from the East-West Center, Asian Cultural Council, and Mellon Foundation, he has taught at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Hong Kong (while on a postdoctoral fellowship), and the University of the Philippines.
Dr. Buenconsejo is currently doing research on the phenomenology of music and completing a book manuscript entitled, "Music's Presence: the Impact of Objects in the Shaping of Music." He currently serves as liaison officer for the Philippines in the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM).
