The Japan Foundation, Manila in Makati, Philippines was established in 1972 as a legal entity for international cultural exchange. It became an independent administrative institution in October 1, 2003 aiming towards a comprehensive and effective development of cultural exchange programs. These programs include the following:

  • Promotion of Cultural and Arts Exchange
  • Promotion of Overseas Japanese Language Education
  • Promotion of Overseas Japanese Studies and Intellectual Exchange
  • Support of Collection and Provision on International Exchange Information and International Cultural Exchange Standard Bearers

Inaugurated in 1996, the foundation continues to promote programs for the introduction of Japanese culture through cooperation with local groups. It regular activities include lectures, film festivals, exhibitions, and performances.
