Inigo and Mercedes Zobel are children of the late Enrique Zobel, cousin of [Jaime Ayala de Zobel], father of the third richest Filipino, [Jaime Agusto Zobel de Ayala[. Inigo Zobel is one of three investors poised to acquire billionaire Danding Conjuanco’s share in San Miguel Corporation (PSE: SMC). In 2010, Forbes listed him as the 11th richest Filipino with a networth of USD730 million.
Inigo Zobel serves as Chief Executive Officer of E. Zobel Inc., and has been its President and Chief Operating Officer since 1992. He also serves as the President of Ayala España S.A and Calatagan Golf Club Inc. and Diamond Star Agro Products Inc. He is also the President of Alfonso Land Corporation, Enzo Condominium Corporation and Ayala International Properties Inc.
Zobel has been an Independent Director of Ginebra San Miguel Inc. and Montery Foods Corporation since 2004. He served as Independent Director of San Miguel Brewery Inc. since 2007, San Miguel Corp. since 1999 and San Miguel Pure Foods Co. Inc. since May 12, 2006. He is also a Director of Philippine Stock Exchange Inc. He holds membership in the Executive Committee, Executive Compensation Committee, Nomination Committee and Audit Committee in the different San Miguel Companies.
He was a Director of Cosmos Bottling Corporation and San Miguel Properties Inc. until 2007 and 2010 respectively. Other Directorship position include Ayala International Properties, Inc., Ayala International Espana, Mermac Inc. and All Asia Airlines.
He is Chairman of the Board of Troic Power Sales Corporation, Green Produce Philippines, Inc. and Business World Publishing Corporation.
He is a Trustee of the E.Zobel Foundation and President of E. Zobel Foundation Inc. He is a Founder of New Beginnings Foundation Inc.
Top Frontier Investment Holding
In 2009, Top Frontier led by the triumvirate of Roberto Ongpin, Inigo Zobel and Jose Campos purchased 28 percent share of San Miguel Corporation by acquiring 857.12 million shares from the San Miguel Retirement Plan at P75 per share for a total of P64.3 billion.
In January of 2010, San Miguel Corporation acquired 49 percent of Top Frontier as a direct buyback of the shares it previously sold to Top Frontier.
Also in the same year, San Miguel Corporation Chairman, Eduardo “Danding” Conjuanco, made plans to sell his stake in San Miguel to Top Frontier. Cojuanco is unloading 493.375 million shares worth P75 each for a total of P37 billion. The group of Ongpin, Zobel and Campos may exercise this option until November 2012. As of November 2010, Top Frontier holds 38 38.57 percent of the company equivalent to P125.9 billion.
Inigo Zobel is an avid polo player. He is the President of Ayala Polo Club. His father Enrique Zobel built the first polo field in Sotogrande.
