From WikiPilipinas: The Hip 'n Free Philippine Encyclopedia
The Holy Rosary Cathedral was erected by the Spanish friars sometime in 1895, before Dipolog City became a municipality. Records show that the cathedral altar was designed by Dr. Jose Rizal upon the request of his former professor, Fr. Jose Villa Clara, a Dapitan missionary. While Rizal was still serving the tenure of his Dapitan exile in those years.
