The Gwapings is a popular group in the early 1990's. This teen group is composed of actors Mark Anthony Fernandez, Jomari Yllana, and Eric Fructuoso who were at their teen years then. Originally, the group has only three members. After a few years, Jao Mapa, another teen actor joined the group.
In 1991, the group became part of the the famous TV sitcom "Palibhasa Lalake" in ABS-CBN. They also appeared of the the comedy show "Tropang Trumpo" in ABC 5 from 1994 to 1995. Aside from these TV productions, the Gwapings was also seen in movies. Their first movie, entitled "Gwapings: The First Adventure," in 1992 is a mixture of adventure, comedy, and horror. The film was directed an written by Jose Javier Reyes. It was shown on October 8, 1992. Mark played the character of Bambi, Eric as Archie and Jomari as Mike. A year later, "Gwapings Dos", the sequel of their first movie was released. It was directed by Manny Castañeda and Joey Marquez and written by Jose Javier Reyes. At present, the members of the group have their separate careers. Mark Anthony Fernandez is currently pursuing his career at GMA Network. He became part of different soap operas including "Impostora" and "Kamandag." Jomari Yllana pursued his career on showbiz as well as his modeling. He became one of the most controversial actors because of his relationships. Meanwhile, Eric Fructuoso took some time off the screen since the group went separate ways. Then, he returned into acting and became part of ABS-CBN's fantaserye entitled "Lobo." Their fourth member, Jao Mapa, is now pursuing his career in theater.
