Feast of the Black Nazarene

The Feast of the Black Nazarene is a religious festival in the Philippines held every 9th of January. Barefooted men carry the life sized statue of the Black Nazarene through the town while yelling "Viva Señor."

History

In 1606, the statue of the Black Nazarene was brought by a priest to Manila. The said statue has been placed at Saint John the Baptist Church in Quiapo since 1787, and for over 200 years, the church has been placing it on a gilded carriage every month of January for pulling through Quiapo's streets.Huge crowd join this yearly event in hope to touch the Nazarene in belief that they will receive blessings or they can be healed from any sickness or diseases.
