As National Youth Commission Commissioner

In May 2014, he was appointed and sworn-in by President Benigno Simeon Aquino III as commissioner-at-large of the National Youth Commission (NYC).

In July 2015, Dantes visited two schools in Manila to drum up support for earthquake preparedness. NYC emphasizes the Filipino youth's role in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) as the youth is in the forefront of disaster response efforts serving as volunteers.

Metro Manila conducted the #Mmshakedrill on 30 July 2015. All government and private sector earthquake drill efforts and initiatives were plotted on MovePH's Project Agos alert map. The map has already incorporated the MMDA's hazard maps for Metro Manila.

Dantes visited the San Sebastian College (SSC) and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) to train them for the “Big One.” Dantes commended the initiatives of both schools on disaster awareness and preparedness and called on everyone to take seriously the threat posed by the “Big One.”

Dantes, NYC commissioner-at-large, delivered a speech at the Climate Vulnerable Forum of the 2015 Paris Climate Conference on 30 November 2015. In his speech, he shared the commission's climate change advocacy campaign called #NowPH. It is an initiative of the NYC and the Climate Change Commission, with support from USAID Building Low Emission Alternatives to Develop Economic Resilience and Sustainability Project (B-LEADERS). #NowPH advocates for “robust awareness, participation, new habit forming, and behavioral changes that will help--no matter how seemingly insignificant--care for the Earth.” According to Dantes, #NowPH's online and offline campaign have reached a total of 221 million social media impressions and 3.6 million total pledges.

Together with Rappler CEO Maria Ressa, Dantes was given the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) Freedom Flame award on 4 February 2015. They were recognized for going the extra mile in making Filipinos more free.

According to Dantes, the award will help boost youth participation in governance. He said that it will serve as an inspiration to continue encouraging the youth to be part of the solution to the country's problems including the issue of climate change.

FNF is a German political foundation which gives the citation annually to individuals for their outstanding commitment to freedom and good governance.
