Bagong Taon (New Year). 70 x 49 cm. 1952. Ateneo Art Gallery.

A painting made by Arturo Luz in oil on lawanit or (ply wood). It depicts three cyclists on one bicycle who are celebrating the New Year. So simple in the eyes of the beholder yet created through careful and precise planning. Each simple object is symbolic. A tiny moon shows the celebration is in the evening, a small cone stands for the trumpet used for boisterous merrymaking, the yellow-green background suggests that the event takes place outdoors. The picture of the cyclists shows rhythm as where this composition plays on.
