Babagwa (The Spider's Lair) is a film about an internet scammer who fell in love with a wealthy old maid while trying to swindle her on Facebook by using a fake profile. Written and directed by Jason Paul Laxamana, the film is one of the official entries for the New Breed Category in Cinemalaya 2013.

Laxamana said that his inspiration for the film came from a friend who became a victim of an online scam. He added that “babagwa” is the Kapampangan word for spider as the characters get caught in the web of the situation. The cast members speak in Kapampangan and the film is set in Angeles, Pampanga.

Summary

Greg uses a fake Facebook account to trick people into depositing money into his bank account. Assuming the persona of a fictional guy named Bam, he flirts with a filthy rich woman that he met online. But in time, he falls in love with Daisy and is confused whether he will push through with the scam or admit his feelings for Daisy.
