Hon. Aurelio M. Umali is the governor of the province of Nueva Ecija and is a former representative of the 3rd District of the same province.
Gov. Aurelio Matias Umali was born on January 25, 1966 in Cabanatuan City. He finished his elementary and secondary schoolyears at the College of Immaculate Conception, Cabanatuan City in 1978 and 1982, respectively. He took up Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of Santo Tomas in 1986, in preparation for the Law course he finished at San Beda College in 1990. He also earned a Masters' degree in Business Administration at De La Salle University.
He was married to Czarina Domingo.
Prior to being a governor, Gov. Umali , was a two term congressman of the third district of Nueva Ecija. But before that he first became a Legislative liaison officer, at the office of the assistant secretary for legal affairs of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports in 1989 to 1990. He became a Law professor in San Beda College in 1994 and practiced his profession as an Associate at the Castro Law Office from 1992 to 1993. He was a company and trust attorney at Eastern Shipping Lines and Asset Privatization Trust, respectively. In 1995, he became the Procurement and sub-contract director of Lucent Technologies. He was also the National Telecommunications Commission 's Deputy commissioner from 1998 to 2001. At present, he is a Senior partner at the Westwood Law Office.
Governor Umali defeated Mariano Cristino Joson in the May 2007 which marked the end of the administration controlled by the Josons for the last forty-eight years.
