Atlas Publishing Co. Inc. was popularly known as ATLAS, was founded in 1968 by Ramon R. Marcelino when he resigned from Graphic Arts Service, Inc. Its publisher was Dona Carmen Roces-Davila, the other daughter of Don Ramon Roces.

History

  • 1968- After the establishment, Atlas Publishing Co. Inc. it took the ownership of the four komiks titles from its current owners: Pilipino Komiks, Inc. (Pilipino Komiks and Espesyal Komiks) and C. Reyes Publishing Corporation (Tagalog Klasiks and Hiwaga Komiks).

Some more titles were added to the Atlas Komiks fleet: Darna Komiks, TSS Komiks, Extra Espesyal Komiks, and King Komiks.

  • 1960- ATLAS and GASI (both owned by the Roceses) were once again on the top of the comics publishing business in the Philippines. These two comics publishing companies were competing for the big market of komiks-magazines in the Philippines.
  • beginning of the 1980s- ATLAS released three komiks titles with different formats: Kasaysayan, Love Drama, and Love Souvenirs.
  • mid 1980s- ATLAS came out with its own series of pocketkomiks which included Super Action Pocketkomiks, Horror Thriller Pocketkomiks and Ninja Pocketkomiks but later on it was transformed into the regular-sized komiks.
  • early 1990s- Atlas continued to produce more komiks titles, the other most widely read komiks title Atlas ever produced was True Horoscope Stories.
  • 1996- Atlas Publishing Co., Inc., was sold to National Bookstore, the leading Filipino bookstore chain in the country owned by the Ramos family.
  • 2006- Atlas Publishing Co. Inc. ceased publication of its komiks titles including the Big Four komiks: Pilipino Komiks, Tagalog Klasiks, Hiwaga Komiks, and Espesyal Komiksafter it had contributed more than 60 years of comics tradition in the Philippines.
