Abiva Publishing House aims to promote quality education by developing, publishing, and distributing excellent educational materials. It was established in 1936, the oldest and most enduring textbook publisher and bookseller in the Philippines.

Abiva is also the exclusive distributor of the Science Research Associates (SRA) which provides an individualized and multilevel instruction and development of reading and other competencies. Aside from being a publishing house, it offers other products and works hand-in-hand with schools to organize and conduct trainings and seminar-workshops for teachers' continuing professional growth.



  • In 1936, Abiva Publishing House, then known as Abiva Press was established by Luis Abiva Sr. and Asuncion Quiray Abiva, both Filipino educators. It initially published reviewer manuals for civil service examinations of patrol men and junior and senior teachers.
  • In 1939, the small printing press of Abiva was transferred to a bigger office in Misericordia St. (now Tomas Mapua) from a one-room office at Evangelista St. in Quiapo Manila.
  • In 1943, Luis Abiva Sr. died. His wife Asuncion Abiva took over the company to continue publishing excellent educational materials.
  • In 1945, Abiva ventured in publishing textbooks for elemantary and highschool students. It also pioneered in publishing Oral English Skills Program (OESP) which featured state-of-the art listening centers and language laboratories.
