Rationale

edit

On the shelves of Philippine Literature is an enormous array of great books waiting to be read. So, why not binge on reading them? The chronicles of history says that the Spaniards were the ones who introduced the art of printing to the early Filipinos. Hereafter, Doctrina Christiana and other religious, vocabulary, and historical books were published. Books authored by many of the country's prolific writers have defined Philippine literature to the world, such as Jose Rizal's famous novel Noli Me Tangere.

According to the National Book Development Board (NBDB) Readership Survey, some of the most popular books read by Filipinos include the Bible, followed by romance novels, cookbooks, comic books, and religious and inspirational works. Today, Filipino readership has been highly exposed on other media of reading other than print, like the Internet. On this premise, Portal: Libro showcases an all-time collection of Philippine Books of different genres where book lovers can hang out, read, and share their favorite books with each other.

The book's third edition was published by Vibal Foundation in February 2010 as part of its Filipiniana Clásica series. In Cartography, Quirino details how the Philippines became known in the late 16th century as an obscure cluster of islands in the Pacific Ocean and evolved for over four centuries into its current iconography...
