The Salanga Writer's Prize is an annual competition for writers for children organized by the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY). Named after Alfredo Salanga, one of the founding members of the organization, the award is given out during National Children's Book Day.

First awarded in 1984, the prize aims to honor original and unpublished stories written for children ages 6 to 12 by Filipino citizens. Entries can either be in Filipino or English, and must be able to result in an illustrated book of 28 to 32 pages if published.

The 2010 edition of the Salanga Prize, however, asks for children's poetry instead of the traditional children's short story. Entries for the 2010 Salanga Prize must be composed of five poems in either English or Filipino, with poems geared for readers ages 8 to 12 years old.

Winners of the Salanga Prize will receive a cash prize, a gold medal, and have a chance for their story to be published. In recent years, these winning entries have also become the basis for the winning illustrations for the PBBY-Alcala Prize.

The number of awardees may vary from year to year; there have even been two years when the prize was not awarded (1994 and 1987).
