Ruben “Totet” De Jesus is an award-winning illustrator of children's books and an advocate of children's literature in the Philippines. One his best known illustrations that received two international awards is Rebecca Añonuevo's book entitled “Ang Mahiyaing Manok.”

Career

Ruben De Jesus is one of the founding members and former president of the Illustrador ng Kabataan (Ang InK), an organization of artists promoting illustrations for children's books. He is currently chairperson of the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) and a faculty member of the UP College of Fine Arts.

Awards

In 2000, De Jesus received two international awards for his book “Ang Mahiyaing Manok.” These include an Encouragement Prize from the Noma Concours in Japan and runner-up award at the New York Showcase Exhibition of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). His book, “Ang mga Anak ng Araw,” earned him another Encouragement Prize at the Noma Concours in 2002.
