The network of water distribution in Manila was in bad shape before 1997 and the situation prompted the Philippine government to address the population's need for good water services through turning over the operation of water systems to the private sector.

Facilities and Processes
Through its treatment plants, the Manila Water makes raw water potable. The potable water is then deliveered through a distribution system. The water used by customers is treated in the company's wastewater treatment plants before being discharged to different bodies of water.

Water for the Poor
It is the flagship program of the Manila Water Company. This aims to improve the health and well-being of its customers through providing potable water. Since 2007, they were able to serve nearly 1.3 million residents in 644 poor communities in the East of Metro Manila.
Manila Water is also an advocate of preserving the environment. It has intensified its efforts in participating in the fight for conserving the environment through the construction of wastewater treatment plants. It is also involved in watershed management through reforestation and campaign.
The company's program aims to generate jobs through accredited contractors and service providers who carry out their projects.
