Gerry Alanguilan

Doroteo Gerardo N. Alanguilan, Jr. (born January 20, 1968) is a leading Filipino komiks illustrator and writer from San Pablo City, Laguna. One of the leading advocates of Philippine komiks today, Alanguilan is a graduate of architecture from the University of Santo Tomas. After a few years of practicing architecture, Alanguilan chose komiks writing and illustration as his profession.

Alanguilan created the popular comics Wasted, Crest Hutt Butt Shop and Elmer, all of which he self-published under his Komikero Publishing. His cartoon series Johnny Balbona, a character based on his real-life friend Johnny Danganan, was serialized in Mwahaha comics.

A prolific komiks creator, Alanguilan also created the series Humanis Rex, for Fudge Magazine, and also wrote Lastikman, a comic book published by Mango Publishing. He also contributed to anthologies like Siglo: Freedom, Siglo: Passion and Filipino Komiks, all published in the Philippines.

Alanguilan is an active advocate of the revival of the komiks industry in the Philippines. He frequently airs his no-holds-barred thoughts and reviews on the state of Philippine komiks in his popular website Komikero.com.

He is also a collector and archivist of old Tagalog komiks and original comic art materials which he maintains in his online Philippine Komiks Art Museum. These materials were once exhibited in 2003, during the San Pablo Komiks Festival, spearheaded by Alanguilan himself.

In the United States, Alanguilan is known as inker for such titles like Wetworks, X-Men, Superman: Birthright, Wolverine (comics)|Wolverine, High Roads (comic book)|High Roads, Fantastic Four, and Silent Dragon. He has also worked with Leinil Francis Yu and Whilce Portacio.

Alanguilan lives with his wife Ilyn Florese-Alanguilan near the Sampaloc Lake, in San Pablo City Laguna.
