Cebu Pacific Air is a low-cost Filipino airline headquartered in Pasay City. It is the Philippines's second largest airline after Philippine Airlines. It is a subsidiary of JG Summit Holdings, which is controlled by the Gokongwei family. It is currently headed by Lance Gokongwei, the chairman emeritus of JG Summit.



Cebu Pacific entered the market in March 1996 with a promise to give “low fare, great value” to every Juan who wanted to fly. It offered low fare to domestic destinations until it launched its international operations in November 2001. It now flies to Bangkok, Busan, Guangzhou, Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Osaka, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore and Taipei. CEB operates a fleet of 35 Airbus (10 A319 and 25 A320) and 8 ATR 72-500 aircraft daily. CEB is the first local airline to introduce e-ticketing, prepaid excess baggage and seat selection in the Philippines. It is also the only domestic carrier that offers fun in the skies with its onboard games known as Fun Flights, and its in-flight magazine Smile.


CEB has the youngest fleet in the Philippines and in Asia. After its DC9's retirement on 26 July 2009, CEB is the only airline in the Philippines that operates a 100% brand-new fleet with 35 airbus (10 A319 and 25 A320) and 8 ATR 72-500 aircraft.


CEB is the only Philippine-based member airline of Northwest Airlines's WorldPerks award travel program. It offers regular travelers the ability to obtain free tickets, upgrade to First Class flights, and other types of rewards. CEB also partnered with Metrobank Card Corporation for its Go! Mastercard credit card which offers reward points for frequent flyers.


CEB operates 100+ flights a day, to 27 destinations in 7 countries.

Incidents and accidents

  • On 2 February 1998, Cebu Pacific Flight 387, a DC-9-32 traveling from Manila to Cagayan de Oro crashed off the slopes of Mount Sumagaya in Misamis Oriental. One hundred four people were killed in what was considered one of the country's worst air tragedies. The incident was said to be caused by pilot error as the plane made a non-regular stopover in Tacloban when the flight should have been a direct flight.
  • On 16 February 2006, the tire of the front landing gear of Cebu Pacific Flight 627, a DC-9-32 traveling from Manila to Dumaguete, burst while taxiing on the runway, causing both runways of the airport to close for two hours. Incoming flights were instructed to divert to nearby airports while departing flights were delayed. Two hours after the incident, the tires of the front landing gear of the plane were replaced and Flight 627 arrived at Sibulan airport in Dumaguete safely.
  • On 10 April 2012, Cebu Pacific Flight 640 came in contact with the wing of a nearby boarding Zest Air plane on the tarmac of Puerto Princesa Airport in Palawan. Both navigation lights were destroyed in the incident.
  • On 2 June 2013, Cebu Pacific Flight 971, which carried 165 passengers inbound from Manila, overshot the runway in Francisco Bangoy International Airport due to of heavy rain. Though the plane was heavily damaged, there were no fatalities.
  • On 13 June 2013, Cebu Pacific Flight 448 , which carried 95 passengers inbound from [[Iloilo], struck the runway lights in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) due to heavy rain. There were no injuries reported and the plane made it to NAIA Terminal 3 without disrupting airport operations.
