The Filipino is a hopeless romantic. We watch romantic films because we want to feel happy, excited, and crazy. There are times that we want to watch to support our love teams, feel the kilig, be updated of the latest “hugot” lines, or have a last song syndrome (LSS) with their theme songs. However, there are also times when we just want to swoon over something different, to feel the painful, heart-wrenching complexities of love. After all, these are the stories that we could relate to. The following is a list of 10 Romance Indie Films You Should Watch from spot.ph:

  • Summary: Andrea is about to get married to a man she does not love. A mysterious man, Dennis, arrives on her wedding day and reminds her of who she really loves.

  • Summary: Gem and Barry are two call center agents who develop an undefined relationship. They slowly develop romance under the guise of friendship over several sleepless nights brought about by the demands of their shared profession.

  • Summary: Cory, who is in her 60's, takes a leap of faith to reignite an old flame. Her first date with Third happens 5 decades after they got separated.

  • Summary: Marlon has a crush on his dance teacher, Karen. He signs up for private dance lessons with Dennis, in hopes of impressing her. Dennis secretly harbors feelings for Marlon.

Sakaling Hindi Makarating

  • Summary: Cielo, who is devastated after her boyfriend of 11 years, Mark, broke off their engagement months before their wedding, quits her job and moves into an old apartment in Quezon City. A series of anonymous hand-illustrated postcards from all over the Philippines are delivered to Cielo. She bonds with her neighbor Paul over their vivid descriptions of travel and adventure. Using the money she saved up for the wedding and the postcards as her guide, she journeys from Luzon to Mindanao, to rediscover not only her country but also herself.

  • Summary: Ross and Sofia are two old friends passionately in love yet life's obstacles get in the way. Despite the intimacy, they are not a couple, and have not seen each other for some time. After spending a few days on an isolated island, their old emotions get rekindled, but everything's no longer the same.

  • Summary: Anita is the only daughter of Lolita, a Santa Clara devotee who wants Anita to be a beauty queen someday. Anita falls in love with the new woman in town, Pilar. Years later, a girlhood crush blossoms during the Fiesta of Santa Clara in Obando, Bulacan.

Relaks, It's Just Pag-Ibig

  • Summary: While vacationing in Leyte, Sari finds a love letter from a certain Elias to his beloved Salome. The two lovers are supposed to meet a year later in the same spot on the beach to witness a rare blue moon and be in love forever. She enlists with Josh, a young man whom she barely met. While on their way, they develop an unlikely friendship which slowly turns into something else, Midway, Kiko, Sari's best friend who has returned from Singapore to fulfill his promise to go with Sari to Leyte, joins the two and creates tension. They all discover that the journey is as relevant as their goal.
